Citizens of Cabot
Portrait Album, Book 2
The second volume of the Society's portrait album continues the collection of donated photographs: families and neighbors, school groups and ball teams, the town band, Society meetings and festivals, and the homes, farms and mills of the town.
The table of contents is arranged alphabetically, with the album page on which each photograph appears. Some captions end with a cemetery code, such as V-1-01, giving the cemetery, section and row where a gravesite may be found.
The smaller cemeteries have only rows numbered; both the Village and Durant cemeteries have the section and then the row numbered. Maps of the cemeteries are also available at the Town Offices and at the Cabot Historical Society.
Each photograph is shown on its own with its caption from the album, page by page. Select a photograph to enlarge it, and use the arrow keys or swipe to move through the album. To see a page as it appears in the album, choose “View the whole album page.” The Historical Society welcomes additions to its files of photographs — originals or well-made copies — and corrections to any names below. St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1896. This seemed to be an all-male class, and we do not know who from Cabot might have graduated then. Until 1908, when the first secondary school was initiated in Cabot, students who wished to continue their education generally went to St. Johnsbury Academy, Goddard Seminary in Barre, Montpelier Seminary, or Hardwick Academy. A few may have gone out of the state. The first secondary school in Cabot was a two-year program. The first class to graduate from a four-year program in Cabot was the Class of 1920, consisting of Ruth Sargent, Edwin Smith, Byron Eastman, Evelyn Smith, Merton Lyndes, Pauline Burbank and Olive Smith.
